Energies have significant cost in industrial electric motors daily operation of a company, thanks to the development of AC drives, which are being treated as one of the most important electric products by most institutions in reducing AC motor energy consumption. Industrial AC motors consume a mass of electricity, estimated to be approximate two-thirds of the whole system's usage. For example, in a water pump system, the ac motor may just cost a few hundred dollars, but will consume tens of thousands of dollars of electricity cost over its service life. Some tips in selecting an AC drive
All the technical & financial matters are all important ones in selecting an AC drive, but the most important is before all to clearly understand what will be the application and process where will be the AC drives, note that you can have high quality drives if you use them for fan you'll lose money. At the opposite if you take a fan-dedicated drive for roller mill application it will not work. So first thing is to define clearly application and process because it will tell you what you need to control as much as possible and will give you some idea where to go. To define the best AC drives, before define at best your need and regulation type, for big application like tunnel boring machine is efficiency and torque regulation, for pipelay system is efficiency, torque and speed regulation with master and several slave controls.... So clearly first application and regulation, then you'll find easily the ac drives type.
Some manufacturers make ac drives with simple programming. It is easy to code in so much application specific capabilities in the chips coming out now.
Once you have made a purchase you have to live with it. All manufacturers will give you some sort of technical data and promise a long life for their drives. But what is a long life for an electronic piece? Look at the installed components and line them up in order of time to fail. You will have capacitors first every time. They will need to be replaced at least once if you want an AC drive to last more than 10 years.
